Dear Fayetteville Council, please consider these suggesions
Dear members of the Fayetteville City Council.
Please consider my sincere suggestions for the March 20, 2007 meeting:
Please study Ruskin Heights a bit more. Seriously consider geology and erosion potential. Fayetteville is far from being tough on such issues and they will haunt generations if we don’t do our homework now. Can the developers actually find hand laborers to build the tree houses in those delicate woods without destroying what makes it a good place for tree houses? No heavy machinery should be on such land. Will the detention areas actually hold enough runoff long enough to prevent erosion and siltation? The ideas are great. Execution will be tough.
Please support Candy Clark, Christine Myres and Sean Trumbo all to stay on the planning commission. They all are doing a great job and have refreshingly different styles. The key thing is that they appear to be doing their homework! The majority of voters appreciate that.
Support Nancy Allen on building heights at least in her compromise version. The Dickson/Lafayette corridors to the UA are like holy ground to many more people than one can imagine. The majority of people who are against tall buildings in that area and many others speak out on the street and in their homes but have never spoken at a Master Plan or Planning Commission or Council meeting. But they shouldn’t have to. Their opinions have been shared through the many who sacrifice to be there.
Support the purchase of the land behind Evelyn Hills for a nature preserve. It won’t offset the incredible number of other areas of timber and wetland that are being destroyed in Fayetteville, but it will be an important token of respect to natural beauty, wildlife and the people who love such things.
Support developing a system to see that developments get done once approved and without risking leaving many acres of ground bare for months, eroding and NOT HOUSING anyone or any living thing.
The flickr address below offers photos from Ruskin Heights, Park West and other areas of interest. I’ll be adding things to it about every day if it continues to work well. My photos will be found under aubunique or aubrey shepherd on flickr. The aerial views and maps can really be valuable, because not everyone can get to google earth or the city aerial GIS system. Clicking on the photos once will enlarge them. A tool (magnifying glass plus the word all sizes) above the enlarged version allows a person to enlarge them more for more detail.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
